An American Theatre Project Ed Bishop, dedicated to the creative process and theater as a holistic and unifiying force for humanity. Producer, Director, Actor, Playwrght and Poet, Ed Bishop has been a part of the East Coast Theater scene for over thirty years. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, he currently resides in the New Orleans, Louisiana area. Highlighted on this website are his current and previous projects, resumes and samples of his work.  Acting Classes (Stanislavski), Theatre Workshops, Script Doctor; Grantwriting and Proposals, Events and Youth Arts Programs Ed has worked with the District of Columbia Public School in conjunction with Jah Kente International, Inc., Sasha Bruce Youth Services, Everyday Theater Youth Ensemble and DC Art/Works to produce high quality arts education programs which encouraged youth participation and performance. He supports an on-going committment to new and emerging playwrights and actors by providing dramaturgy programs, acting classes and theatre workshops to serious artists and arts education programs. Ed directed a highly acclaimed production of "The Emperor Jones" by Eugene O'Neill which is only one of the many productions reviewed to critical acclaim by the Washington Post and other news services. He has produced two plays nominated for the prestegious Helen Hayes Awards (1996) in Washington, DC. His production of "Fences" by August Wilson was acclaimed one of the best of the August Wilson plays produced in Washington, DC during the 2005 Season.
A Strong Committment to Quality Theatre and Diversity Ed has a driving committment to creating the best theatre possible. He has a history of working with the commmunity, city officials and other professionals to ensure that vibrant top quality theatre is accessible to all. He works with small professional theater as well as community theaters to assist their reaching orgainzational goals whether those goals are artistic quality or organizational growth. He believes that adherence to quality is a key to growth; which he exempliefied in a community theatre production of "The Lion in Winter" directed for Silver Spring Stage in Silver Spring, Maryland.
